More than 70 years after the creation of the TFP brand, our founder’s philosophy is more present than ever, from the sourcing of the best products to its commitment to its customers.

1945-1979

A VISIONARY ENTREPRENEUR

In 1945, The Furniture People was established in Mauritius. At that time it was born from the vision of our late grandfather, Mr. Ismael Maharaullee an entrepreneur who started out with very little, but possessed invaluable qualities: vision, hope for the future, perseverance and an extraordinary ability to work. Within two years, two more furniture stores were opened.

1979-2004

NEW ROADS

During the second half of the brand’s life, the second generation entered the scene through our father, Mr. Mustapha Maharaullee. He was one of the few in the country to have a degree in Furniture Design and Manufacturing at the London School of Furniture, as well as being a certified member of the Institute of Wood Science. His expansive knowledge allowed him to understand new materials, artificial leathers and other upholstery techniques, and he applied them without hesitation. A new factory was set up in 1980 in Mauritius. A bigger and more spacious showroom was also set up, offering customers more quality pieces at competitive prices.

2004 – 2020

A bright future

In 2004, the third generation of TFP takes over the helm. After his university days, Mousheerl Maharaullee joined TFP and is now the Director of Finance and Marketing, with the support of his sister, Shaz Maharaullee, the CEO and face of TFP Australia. Strong wit and a fighting spirit define this generation, aligning new strategies to the needs and demands of an even more dynamic and competitive market. TFP has grown and the chain now has 7 stores throughout Mauritius and one in Melbourne, Australia. It all started from a garage in 2014, where Shaz was unloading the products and selling them mainly online. In 2016, the first warehouse was set up in Montmorency and we grew quickly to be able to open up a second one in 2017. At the start of 2020, we successfully established our presence online and managed to endorse the TFP brand.

2021-2022

We can now offer you a wider range of products in stock thanks to the larger space in our new warehouse. This means you'll have more options to choose from, and we'll be able to get your orders to you even faster than before.

We also have plenty of parking and easy access to our warehouse. You can come to our warehouse and personally inspect the products you want!
